Using Motion-Capture Technology in Medicine

Improved treatment quality for neuromuscular or orthopaedic problems is available with the help of the Motion Analysis Laboratory.  This state-of-the-art mobile technology is reserved not only for Hollywood movies and gaming, professional athletes, the aviation industry, or high-tech businesses, but is also within reach of local physicians and therapists to better serve their pediatric and adult patient populations.

Using evidenced-based practice and cutting edge motion-capture technology, physical therapist movement specialists, bioengineers, and the medical director of the Motion Analysis Laboratory evaluate movement disorders and create specific intervention regimens to improve function.

By synthesizing large amounts of data obtained from kinematics (the study of movement), kinetics (the forces responsible for movement), and electromyography (the muscle activity related to movement) clinicians create a complex picture using the laboratory's motion-capture cameras paired with comprehensive musculoskeletal and neuromuscular evaluation techniques.  The 2 to 3-hour long evaluation sessions consist of the most comprehensive services available to gather the evidence needed to discern the causes and compensatory strategies for a movement disorder and how to treat it.
